Heart Of Rome- Private Tour

A half-day introduction to baroque Rome

 

This tour of charming fountains, big and tiny piazzas and churches will make you enjoy the work of great artists, beginning at the Spanish Steps and  including Navona square decorated with the famous Four Rivers’ Fountain and the Trevi Fountain, where you can toss the coin that will ensure you will return one day to Rome.

Rome in one day- Private Tour

A full-day introductive tour to Rome, containing many of the essential sights

 

The tour starts on the oldest hill of the Ancient City, the Capitoline, and the astonishing view it offers over the Roman Forum, the political, religious and commercial hub of the roman Republican Age and will pause at the Colosseum to admire the greatness of roman architecture. From there we will cross the heart of Rome walking through the narrow lanes that form the urban lay out of the city centre passing by countless suggestive sites that left clear or hidden traces of their past and witnessing the development of this part of the city mainly built from the XV century, the main squares embellished with charming fountains or obelisks from Egypt (Trevi fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo, Augustan altar of the Peace, Pantheon, Navona square, Campo dei fiori, Largo Argentina, Jewish Ghetto, Tiber Island, Aventin hill and its keyhole).

The Celio hill and its treasures- Private Tour

Linked to the legend of the etruscan hero Celio Vibenna, who would have helped the king of Rome to conquer it, the hill was also known with the name of Querquetulanus for the presence of oak-groves.

Highlightsthe SS. Quattro Coronati church, great example of architectural transformation along centuries. The original complex, dating back to the VI century, was totally transformed in the IX century. Important art documents enriched the complex in the following centuries. Above all, in the XIII century, a cycle of frescoes depicting scenes of Stories of the emperor Constantine and Pope Sylvester.

S. Clemente basilica, with its different levels of excavation, offers an extraordinary example of the ancient custom of re-using previous buildings for the construction of new ones, a stunning evidence of the multiple reincarnations of ancient Rome.

Walking tour of Trastevere- Private Tour: a walk through different periods of the roman history, from the time in which the right side of the river was foreign to the city through the early Christian and the Middle Age, with the building heat that concerned new constructions and restorations, until the Renaissance and the transformations of late 800s that are, nevertheless, little perceivable in this tour made almost entirely of narrow and winding lanes still maintaining their popular character which is so peculiar of that part of the city.

The Janiculum hill’s charme - Private Tour

The mosaics of the Esquiline hill

S. Prassede, coffer of impressive Byzantine mosaics, hosts the most important Byzantine monument in Rome. S. Pudenziana,  built along an ancient roman path on ruins of a II century AD house, part of which was later transformed into a thermal bath in which the church, as we see it now, was then installed and decorated. It contains the most ancient early Christian apse mosaic conserved in Rome. A fascinating path that shows how paganism and Christianity intermingled along centuries.

The archaeological site under the church of SS. Giovanni and Paolo, the Roman Houses

Underneath the basilica of Ss. Giovanni and Paolo on the Celio hill, an extraordinary complex of residential buildings of roman age was discovered in 1887. It shows a suggestive archaeological site of 20 underground rooms partially decorated with frescoes dating back to the III century AD. The buildings are of different age but along the III century AD they were joined together and transformed into an elegant pagan house.

After becoming seat of the early Christian cult, the house was interred at the beginning of the V century in order to allow the construction of the basilica.

This tour offers you anything that anyone in Rome would do. Two hour-walking tour of the city centre departing at 5pm. It includes the most famous sights and some less well known, but equally charming “hidden corners” (Venice square, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Navona Square, Campo dei Fiori, Farnese square, Palazzo Spada).

Welcome drink followed by lunch or dinner on Silvia’s wonderful terrace overlooking the Pantheon’s dome, set amidst the enchanting rooftops of the old city.
