THE AREA
Palau is a charming small town and is a connecting point to the islands in the Arcipelago of La Maddalena, given its large touristic port. In addition to the beautiful beaches in Palau itself, there are many others which may be reached within a ten to twenty Km range.
The Maddalena island and Caprera are at a fifteen minutes ferry ride, running from Palau every thirty minutes. Other trips to the islands, are organized on a daily basis to the minor islands such as Budelli, Spargi and S.Maria.
Porto Cervo, a well known and mondane resort, is famous for its luxury boutiques for both clothing and jewellery, as well as for the many exclusive restaurants providing a variety of Italian and international specialities. It is only a twentyfive minutes drive from Palau.
Porto Raphael, fifteenth minutes away by car, enjoys an exclusive beach overlooking the islands. Within the vicinity, is a location named Isola dei Gabbiani/ Porto Pollo, which is famous for windsurfing and kitesurfing as well as a peculiar beach. This is a place where young people enjoy evening activities, music, dancing and of course cocktails at sunset.
Not to be forgotten, are Baia Sardinia and Poltu Quatu, also within a twenty minutes drive and known for their pleasent landscapes and ports. Corsica may be reached by ferry in just about an hour, leaving from the port of Santa Teresa di Gallura, a twenty minutes drive from Palau, and also a very interesting town to visit given its famous sculptured granite rocks.
In the surrounding area of Palau, there are many farms which offer typical Sardinian meals at affordable prices. We are more than happy to reccomend a restaurants and places to visit.
The most attractive beaches in Palau are located in Capo d’Orso: namely Cala Capra, Portu Mannu and Cala di Lepre. Whereas, along the coast line in fron t of the apartment, a five minutes walk leads to a number of gracious number of beaches at Porto Faro. Other suggested beaches, are in the area of Cannigione, Baia di Nelson and Costa Serena in Porto Raphael, Rena Majore in Santa Teresa di Gallura, Porto Pollo in Isola dei Gabbiani. Finally, not to be missed are: Long Beach, Capriccioli, Romazzino, Grande Pevero and La Celvia all within the Porto Cervo area.
